The one that started it all!
"Nam Prik Farang." Now we call it Farang Fire, but here's how it came to be...
On a trip to Thailand in 2007, Cam ended up in a rural village called Chiang Dao, north of Chiang Mai, for a festival (he still doesn't know what they were celebrating), where everyone was dipping balls of sticky rice into a sauce that they just called "nam prik". He politely asked if some of the "Mae" (moms) would show him how to make it, and they were thrilled to show him! He went back to Chiang Mai and asked a food stall near where he was staying if they'd make it for him, and they laughed, telling him that dipping sticky rice into "nam prik" is for poor people! So he would go to markets every week, buy everything he needed, and made it himself to share with his friends. When he came back to Canada, he adjusted the recipe dozens of times over many years, and ended up with this. Farang Fire.
Try this spicy, sweet and savoury sauce with any dish or snack (stir fries, rice and noodle dishes, soup, meat, pork rinds, sticky rice, eggs, veggies, etc.) to add a major kick of Thai flavour!
Ingredients: lime juice, fish sauce, shallots, palm sugar, coriander, Thai chilies, monosodium glutamate
