Cam - The CookHi! I'm Cam. I'm the guy who does the cooking.
It all started in 2007, when I was in Thailand to learn Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing). On a brief excursion in the north of Thailand, in an area called Chiang Dao, one of my trainers had invited myself and some other students to a festival in his family's village. We spent several days there, but on the first day, I tasted a sauce that blew my mind. The locals were rolling up balls of sticky rice and dipping it in the sauce. They called it "nam prik", which simply means "pepper water", but I learned there are dozens of different ways to make nam prik. I humbly asked one of the local women to show me how to make it, and just like that, my love for cooking Thai food began. Since then, I've learned from many more Thai cooks and chefs. Local dishes, popular dishes, unpopular dishes, and some very unique dishes. The mark I make on the food I serve is that it's exactly the way it would be if you got it at a road side stall in Thailand. Over the past several years, I've cooked for friends, family, small parties, and large parties, always hearing how delicious the food was and hoping to have me cook for them again. In 2016, I decided it was time to make a business out of what I do, and I hope you'll have me cook for your next party, event, or whatever it is where you need delicious Thai food served! |

I met Cam in 2008 and, after some time, he convinced me to learn Thai kickboxing. We've traveled to Thailand together many times since then. I've learned to love strong Thai flavours, and I really enjoy spicy dishes and the flavour of chilies - Thai food just isn't the same without them! But trust me, I make sure Cam checks himself before he wrecks himself. I love to organize and manage events. Cam does the food and I help do the rest. I like to taste new food, eat my classic favourites, and help come up with dishes and service ideas that will connect our lives with yours. Food is the great communicator, and we're here to translate! |
Farang? |
The word "Farang" is Thai for "Foreigner", so the name Farang Thai was a natural choice for our company, being that we're Canadians! Some people might not expect us to be good at cooking Thai food, but let's be clear - this isn't your neighbourhood Thai restaurant experience. This is Thai food the way you'd get it from a street vendor in Bangkok, a roadside grill in Isaan, a stall on a sunny beach in Phuket, or a Khantoke dinner show in Chiang Mai.
Cooking for people is deeply rewarding to us. We love seeing peoples' reactions when eating something we've created, knowing we've made them happy. Food is life, and making food for someone else is giving them health and happiness. This is Thai food. This is what we do. |

Cam can't eat gluten because he has celiac disease. We know that many others have either celiac disease, an allergy, or sensitivity to gluten, and that it can be hard to trust Thai food since soy sauce, oyster sauce, and various sauces or wraps (wonton, anyone?) tend to contain gluten, but with small tweaks to ingredients and no change to flavour, nearly all delicious Thai dishes can be gluten-free! One of the reasons we even started this crazy operation is because Cam was frustrated that he couldn't eat some of his favourite Thai dishes - so he set out to find the solution, and once he figured it out, he knew so many other people with the same affliction would love to enjoy the same experience of eating food they thought was permanently off the menu!

We offer a truly great, no frills, delicious Thai food experience that is unique in that we're not trying to "westernize" anything. It's grassroots Thai food. No fusion, no "Thai style," no substitutions (unless requested!). Pure and simple Thai food!
We stand by every dish that we make and truly believe you will enjoy every bite. All of the dishes are gluten-free (except spring rolls), and great lengths are taken to ensure no cross-contamination occurs. Allergies and sensitivities may be accommodated as well. |
